How to use
- Type syllables with tone numbers 1–4:
ma1 ma2 ma3 ma4 → mā má mǎ mà.
- Neutral tone is 5, 0, or no number:
ma5 → ma.
- Type
v or u: for ü: lv4 → lǜ, nv3 → nǚ.
- Spaces optional:
ni3hao3 works too. Punctuation is kept.
- Reverse it: paste tone marks (
nǐ hǎo), switch to Marks → numbers, get ni3 hao3.
Tone placement rules
Marks follow standard pinyin: a first (hao3 → hǎo),
then o, then e; iu marks the u
(liu2 → liú), ui marks the i
(hui1 → huī).
